Steve Jobs wasn’t just a great product showman, he led teams to create far better products than any team member could have imagined.
Make no mistake – even though I was an Apple-badged employee, I have no rose-colored fantasies of an encouraging Steve Jobs kumbaya circle. His sharp tongue and explosive criticisms when something didn’t meet his standards were legendary on campus, before, during, and after word reached the press.
Just as Hans Finzel reminds us, great leaders do take us places we would never go on our own.
We have to make sure that as we aspire to be great leaders ourselves, to make sure that the reward is greater than the cost and that risks are mitigated.
