The present isn’t always dictated by the past, and life (as well as actions) are created from moment to moment. Don’t hesitate because of things that have happened in the past, because these more current moments are fresh and give you a chance to move into a new direction.
Christine’s bakery was almost ten years old, and she was proud to say that she had a regular clientele who came every morning for their coffee and muffin fix. It was great to see the regulars, but Christine realized that she hadn’t been seeing too many new faces lately. It felt like she was stuck in a repetitive pattern, one that was stagnant.
She decided that she wasn’t going to let the next ten years of business look identical to the last one.
So she got to work, replacing the old Formica tables in the cafe and adding new, brighter light fixtures. On a whim, she asked a writing group she belonged to if they wanted to start meeting at the cafe. Soon other groups in the community asked to use the space, and Christine’s cafe was filled to the brim with unfamiliar faces on open mic nights and other more public events.
Improving upon this success, she hired a social media consultant and branding expert to take her digital presence up a notch. So not only did she achieve her success, she was able to maintain it. Her bakery became one of the most successful in the region in less than 6 months. It was a place worth going, a place she could be proud of.
