When it comes to building your business, you have to be willing to grow in new ways. This means having the courage to go in a different direction, and the willingness to go and seek new experiences. However, it’s often difficult to take risks and face the unknown when you’re comfortable where you are. To expand and grow, you need to leave what’s familiar and move to more uncomfortable territory.
You have to take action and move beyond what you know.
Anthony’s small business was built around a very local clientele. Day in and day out he would greet regulars as if they were members of his own family, but Anthony began to notice something: his business wasn’t expanding, it was actually beginning to lose traction. There’s nothing wrong with being a local staple, but it can lead to stagnation.
He eventually figured out that it would be best to expand his business into a digital market where he could market himself to individuals who weren’t his neighbors. This was a scary prospect for Anthony, as he has only sold things locally for years. Anthony had two options. He could either stay local and risk becoming a permanent local staple without any grasp outside of the downtown area, or take a risk and see what else was out there.
Anthony decided to take that risk and expand into unfamiliar territory, and the results were incredible. He never looked back, and now with a strong internet presence that felt alien to him just a short while ago, Anthony’s business is continuing to grow.
Because was willing to lose sight of the shore, he was able to reach new destinations never before experienced.
